The Advanced Placement Language and Composition class is designed for students who have the potential of taking a college level english class in high school. In this class, you learn about the author's purpose through their use of rhetorical devices such as ethos, pathos, and logos and how they use these devices to substantiate their purpose. You will learn the elements of a well developed five paragraph essay to enhance your own writing skills. You will be exposed to many wonderful novels such as The Great Gatsby and show your understanding of what you've read through debates and group discussions. You will analyze information from source texts, argumentative, analytical, expository, and personal texts from various authors and time periods. The goal of AP Language and Composition is to not only prepare you for the AP exam in May but to really push you to go deeper and really take the time to understand a piece of writing and its purpose. The course also works to enhance your writing ability into a way that is formal. There may be many challenges when taking this course because it is not like a regular class so you are exposed to more work and your teachers and professors expect more from you. But regardless, they work with you to make sure you understand the curriculum and are comfortable with it. Have a wonderful year and Work Hard!
